Status:  Full-Time

Hours:  Days - Monday to Friday. 

Site:  Primarily Oakville. Will require travel to all hospital sites

This is what you’ll be doing:

Reporting to the Director of Decision Support, the Decision Support Consultant is primarily responsible for analyzing, monitoring, interpreting and reporting on various data holdings to support clinical operations. This individual supports the clinical programs through the maintenance and oversight of processes related to mandatory external data submissions and reporting. The Consultant responds to ad hoc data requests to promote evidence-based decision making. The Consultant will ensure that the performance data reported is aligned with the hospital’s corporate data collection and reporting standards. The Consultant will support the guiding principles for information management within the organization and be a key member of the performance reporting team.

  • Assists in the development and management of decision support systems for use by various stakeholders at Halton Healthcare. 
  • Contributes to the development of guiding principles for information management. 
  • Assists in the ongoing development and dissemination of performance standards. 
  • Contributes to the development of a comprehensive and dynamic decision support infrastructure of process frameworks and methodologies. 
  • Supports network for education, capacity development and executive training opportunities. 
  • Participates as an active member of the team and participant on appropriate hospital committees.
  • Contributes to corporate and program performance measurement & reporting. 
  • Provides analytical support and expertise in the collection, review and analysis of industry reports generated by organizations external to Halton Healthcare. 
  • Provides analytical support and expertise to facilitate effective and efficient benchmarking analysis at the corporate and program levels of Halton Healthcare.

  • Undergraduate degree in Science, Health Sciences, Computer Science, Business, Economics, Health Informatics, or Health Administration.
  • Graduate degree in health sciences, health information systems, or related field including training in data collection, analysis and management an asset
  • 3-5 years’ experience in performance measurement, decision support or other relevant role in healthcare setting required
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating activities among diverse stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to achieve common goals and objectives required
  • Demonstrated experience using diverse hospital data sources and analysis to promote evidence-based decision making required.
  • Experience using comparator information to make recommendations required
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of volume budget development and reporting required
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of weighted case/CMI development and reporting required
  • Advanced experience using of Microsoft tools (e.g. Excel, Access) required
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish and build effective working relationships.
  • Working knowledge of business intelligence systems used in healthcare an asset.
  • Hands-on involvement on hospital-based quality improvement initiatives an asset.
  • Familiarity with healthcare databases (CIHI, CCRS, NRS, and WTS) required.
  • Experience with Surgical, Rehabilitation and Geriatric program operations a definite asset. 
  • Experience using national and provincial databases, such as CIHI Portal and IntelliHealth, an asset.
  • Data management and/or analysis software experience (e.g. SAS/SQL BI) is an asset.
