Position: EEG Technologist

Department: CardioRespiratory

Status: Temporary full-time for approx. 3 months

Hours: Monday to Friday - 7.5 hour days 0830-1630 (Hours are subject to change based on operational requirements)

This is what you’ll be doing:

  • Managing and performing Neurophysiological testing (EEG, EVP studies) at Halton Healthcare and to ensure the highest quality of service is provided and maintained for all patients/clients following the principles of Halton Healthcare Care Delivery, Hospital Mission and Values.
  • Organizing Electroencephalographic, (Sleep deprived, Video Monitoring, Polygraphic recordings) and Evoked potential procedures for patients as ordered by physician.
  • Takes a patient history from patient (and/or from Meditech patient health records) including medications and description of events/reason for referral, documents the same. Abstracts relevant information from the patient’s clinical record, and obtains additional information by questioning.
  • Applies suitable electrodes as per 10 – 20 International system of measurement, selects predetermined electrode combinations as well as special combinations as necessary.
  • When indicated by the EEG recording, monitors’ variables such as electromyograms, video, electrocardiograms, electro-oculograms, respirations, stages of sleep, etc.
  • Uses appropriate activating procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation, video monitoring and sleep procedures based on patient’s individual history.
  • Performs E.V.P. testing procedures after taking a history from patient including medications, reason for test, monitoring patient, removing electrodes, cleaning patient’s skin surface, saves and stores data. Prepares technical data and report for Physician.
  • Performs testing procedures, monitors patient during testing, removes electrodes, cleaning head surface of patient.
  • Saves and stores data, prepares a Technical report including Technologist’s interpretation for Physician, stores data as per Halton Healthcare guidelines. Follows Halton Healthcare Policy and Procedure Infection Control Guidelines for all testing procedures
  • Demonstrates competency in chosen profession; consistently demonstrates knowledge and expertise in professional practice and hospital-based standards
  • Demonstrates being patient and consumer focus; makes a commitment to meet or exceed the needs of all internal and external customers
  • Demonstrates being a team player; interacts with co-workers, physicians, volunteers, patients and their families in a way that demonstrates that everyone involved in patient care is valuable

  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility; to model a sound understanding of, and work within, the financial boundaries of Halton Healthcare funding

  • Registration and good standing with the Canadian Association of Electrophysiological Technologist (C.A.E.T.)
  • N.E.T.O. (Neuroelectrophysiological Technologists of Ontario) or A.S.E.T. (American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists Inc. required
  • Certified in operation of EEG equipment required
  • Graduate of a 2 + year Accredited Electrophysiological Training program/licensed EEG program.
  • BLS certification required at time of hire
  • Must have the ability to operate the appropriate equipment, testing procedures and compile, write and present reports.
  • Organizational skills, demonstrates ability to work independently
  • Must be physically able to do the job
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record
