Position: Registered Practical Nurse

Department: Ambulatory Procedures Unit (APU), Cystoscopy and Opthalmology

StatusPermanent Part-time (must provide up to 0.5 FTE)

Hours:  Mon - Fri, 8 hour shifts, Days (subject to change based on operational needs)

Unit Profile: 

 

The APU will offer patient-centred and family-focused care in a state-of-the-art facility.  The Opthalmology, Cystosopy amd Gastro entrology programs will make up the APU Department.  

The Opthalmology department will have capacity for 2 procedures rooms, pre op preparation area and recovery. The dedicated procedures rooms are both equipped with the latest technology to support opthalmology procedures, i.e. cataracts, paediatric, and retinal procedures.  

The Cystoscopy department will have capacity for 2 procedure rooms. One room equipped with a fixed fluro unit and a second procedure room with a urology surgical table. Both rooms are equipped to provide general anesthesia. Scope reprocessing is performed in a dedicated reprocessing area in the cystoscopy department.

Patients will experience a centralized registration process for all ambulatory procedures. Clerical staff and volunteers will be available in the pre-procedure area of the unit to enable nurses to be entirely focused on the specific patient and family needs in those areas.

The RPN will participate in the day-to-day clinical operations of the Cystoscopy or Opthalmology Departments in collaboration with the Patient Care Manager, APU CRN and the APU Team, patients and families.

This is what you'll be doing

  • The RPN in the Cystoscopy and Opthalmology Ambulatory Procedure Unit (APU) will facilitate procedures in either Cystoscopy or Opthalmology area
  • The RPN will function the scrub role in either procedural area
  • Work collaboratively with team members i.e. MDR, cystoscopy and opthalmology technicians, co workers, physicians, CRN/APU, PACU, patients and families
  • Document in both PICS and Meditech
  • Complete add on cases at end of day

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and current BCLS required
  • Certified Peri Operative nursing certification required
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Recent Opthamology and Cystoscopy experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient and family centred care

  • Evidence of change and conflict resolution skills
  • Teaching, mentoring, interpersonal and public relations skills
  • Evidence of problem solving skills and critical thinking skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work as a team member
  • Knowledge of PICIS, OR Manager an asset
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record
