Position:  Registered Practical Nurse

Department:  Surgical Program - Inpatient Surgery-7C/S

Status:  Temporary Part-time for approx. 1 year (must provide availability up to 0.5 FTE)

Hours:  Monday - Sunday various rotating 12 hour shifts  (subject to change based on operational requirements)

Site:  Oakville

This is what you’ll be doing:

Functions as an active member of a multidisciplinary team in the provision of patient-focused care for the Inpatient Surgical Unit. The successful candidate will collaborate with other health care professionals in the planning and implementation of care for a wide variety of Surgical cases.

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Current BCLS Certification required at time of hire
  • Recent surgical experience required
  • Required skills include aseptic technique, wound care, ostomy care, CBI care, NG tube insertion and management, foley catheter insertion and management, IV care and management.
  • Experience in medication administration
  • Organized and an ability to work in a team environment
  • Caring, compassionate and patient- and family-centered
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound knowledge of nursing process, theory, and responsibilities to the profession
  • Sound problem-solving, conflict resolution and decision making skills
  • Functions independently within scope of practice
  • Maximizes utilization of resources
  • Evidence of continuing education/learning
  • Aware of multicultural issues affecting health care needs
  • Basic computer skills- Order Entry module of Meditech required
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record required

The ideal candidate is strong in patient centered care in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment and should be ready to drive change and innovation. We require a person with good communication skills with a clear patient focus with the ability to manage execution and to foster teamwork and cooperation.

Salary: $23.48 - $29.35 per hour
